The Audi R8 V10 was bestowed with the title of World Performance car in this year’s World Car of the Year Awards held in April at the New York auto Show.
It is Audi R8’s second win in this prestigious category, and the third for the brand with four rings, as the V8 model likewise obtained this sought-after global prize in 2008. The other Audi to have the same mark of distinction was the Audi RS 4 back in 2007.
Many of the World Car Awards jurors opined that the worldwide craving for a street car providing the same exhilaration of the original R8 LMP1 race car, which has dominated the Le Mans series, has finally been satiated by Audi.
This year’s champion, designed in conjunction with Quattro GmbH, has a 5.2-liter direct injection ten-cylinder engine under its handsome hood. The powerhouse delivers 386 kilowatts of pure muscle to make the R8 dart from zero to 100 in a mere 3.9 seconds and reach maximum speeds of 316 kilometers per hour. Put that in a lightweight aluminum body that is eye-catching and jaw-dropping, plus throw in several Audi technologies like the Quattro permanent all-wheel drive and the inventive all-LED lighting system and you got an ultramodern automobile that’s sure to be a head-turner.
Audi has been dominating the World Car awards since 2005, when the Audi A6 first gained the overall World Car of the Year honors. Also in 2007, the Audi TT was named World Car Design of the Year which the Audi R8 V8 subsequently bagged in 2008.
With three performance awards, two design trophies and coveted World Car of the Year in its tow, Audi has indeed appealed to the exquisite taste of car enthusiasts all around the world. So whatever Audi you opt for, you are assured of its top-notch quality, innovative design and award-winning performance.
