At the 24-hour race of 2010 in Nürburgring-Nordschleife, the team of BMW Motorsport has made a grand come back by emerging as the champion. The no. 25 BMW M3 GT2 garnered its 19th win during this epic endurance race. Its last victory was five years ago.
After 154 laps around the 25.378-kilometre circuit, the champion car made it to the finish line. Part of this winning team were Augusto Farfus (BR), Uwe Alzen (DE), Jörg Müller (DE) and Pedro Lamy (PT) who took the wheel at the time they crossed. These four drivers performed amazingly as they garnered the first prize even with some technical difficulties with their gearbox in the final three hours of the race.
The Director for BMW Motorsport Mario Theissen said in an interview that this victory that they had in this 24-hour race reminded him of their victory in Le Mans back in 1999. He gives high praise to Jörg Müller and Uwe Alzen for being able to overcome many obstacles when it seemed their triumph was going to be difficult to attain. He also extends his gratitude to all their supporters.
After their victories in the years 1989, 1990, 2004 and 2005, the Schnitzer Motorsport team has garnered its fifth win in the “Green Hell”. In an interview, Team Manager Charly Lamm said that the commitment that the team had displayed was really amazing. In a short span of time, they had to put together the most effective package. Reliability was an important factor that contributed to their victory.
A big factor in the triumph of the Schnitzer Motorsport was their flawless and speedy workmanship that has been apparent for many years. When Werner crashed around the eighth lap, the mechanics went to work swiftly, replacing the front-left suspension, the rear-left shock absorber and the radiatoe on the number 26 BMW M3 GT2. The car that won was not free of problems either. It suffered a tire damage on the 46th lap and a radiator problem six laps after that. As though this was not enough, a problematic gearbox followed suit in the final three hours of the race. This resulted to extra pit stops, but it did not stop the efficiency and focus of the team. As a result, in the last two hours, they were back at the head of the game.
This is the fifth time on the Nordschleife that victory has been seen with Pedro Lamy, who is now part of the all-time winners’ list. A second victory in one of the most difficult circuits of the world is in the hands of Jörg Müller and Uwe Alzen. Agusto Farfus also takes the glory of being a part of the Nordschleife history books.
